Another Hurricane season draws to a close. Thankfully, for many, mother nature was uneventful this year.

I am courious to know what has the department and the various unions done to prepare first responders in the event that a natural or man made disaster occurs again?

What plan has the department developed? Have they begun diseminating the information and putting it into practice? Does headquarters and the various districts have alternative bases of operations if required to relocate and necessary supplies? Does the department have enough supplies to care for their own employees and citizenry if they begin arriving on their door step?

Has the department been encouraging officers to have family emergency preparedness plans developed and file them with their supervisors?

Are the supervisors being adequately trained in emergency response leadership?

Has the department in conjunction with OEP developed ways to provide security, shelter and sanitary conditions for displaced residence?

While the city managed to dodge a bullet this last year and will probably do so again the following year, complacency cannot be permitted to build.

Remember, to stay the course.
