POLICE SERGEANT
(CLASS CODE 7111)
FINAL DATE FOR FILING APPLICATIONS: Friday, December 29, 2006
TENTATIVE WRITTEN TEST DATE: January, 2007
KIND OF WORK:
Police work in supervising a detail of Police Officers either on an assigned shift or in performing specialized police work in an assigned unit; and related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Permanent status in any of the following classes: Police Officer I, Police Officer II, Police Officer III, Police Officer IV.
Four (4) years of experience with the New Orleans Police Department in any combination of the following classes: Police Recruit, Police Officer I, Police Officer II, Police Officer III, Police Officer IV.
3) Twenty-five (25) semester hours of credit from an accredited college or university*
Note: In order to be certified for promotion to Police Sergeant, candidates must have an Associate’s Degree, a Bachelor’s Degree or must have successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of college credits from an accredited college or university.* Of these college credits, a maximum of 25 semester hours will be granted for Police Academy coursework.
*An accredited college or university is defined by Civil service as an institution that is accredited by an organization that is recognized by the United States Department of Education.
ORIGINAL COLLEGE DIPLOMA OR OFFICIAL COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE SUBMITTED TO CIVIL SERVICE BEFORE A CANDIDATE CAN BE CERTIFIED FOR POLICE SERGEANT.
KIND OF EXAMINATION:
A written test and a job simulation.
Candidates must pass the written test in order to be admitted to the job simulation portion of the examination.
Subsequent bulletin(s) will provide further relevant information.
