Today, Lt. Mike Glasser and I, had the occasion to visit our officers who were still being detained as a result of the Danziger Bridge indictment. We updated them on the huge support being offered, not only from their fellow officers, but also from people as far away as England. They were glad to hear of the moral and financial support being offered and it was obvious that it lifted their spirits.

I must admit that it pained us deeply to see these very proud heroes being held in detention. But I must give credit where credit is due. Sheriff Gusman and his staff have ensured that our officers are segregated from the general population and while they would rather be anywhere else, they are as comfortable and safe as can be expected. For that, I would like to thank Sheriff Gusman and his deputies.

During the time we were there, we made sure that our officers had everything that was allowable. They did make some small requests and we are going to fill them tomorrow.

I also spoke with Villavasso, Barrios and Faulcon concerning their duties during Hurricane Katrina. What has not been printed was the large number of rescues that these officers conducted. They were ferrying large numbers of citizens to dry ground and giving them water and other food items to keep them going. Does this sound like a bunch of rogue cops bent on murder?

I invited the officers to have their family members attend the PANO meeting this Tuesday. It appears that some of them will be there and I am asking all PANO members to attend to show your support. Very few things in life are as important as this cause and I am asking all officers to rally around these cops and their families.

It was an honor to be able to see my friends today. They are heroes. They are good cops and they do not deserve to be in jail for doing their job. Please help us get these good men back to their families. Please join us in supporting them financially. We assured them that their families would be taken care of and we have assured them that the fight has just begun and we are strong.

Anyone wishing to know more about our visit today can feel free to contact me at SOD. Our officers are in good spirits and cannot wait for their day in court. Isn’t it the height of hypocrisy, our guys stay and sacrifice during Katrina, are indicted for doing their job and turn themselves in by walking down South White Street. Eddie Jordan did nothing during the storm, indicted our officers for doing their job and now cannot be found for a comment on the indictment.

If anyone has any questions about the officers they can go to PANO1544.com or LaFOP.org. You can also call the PANO office at (504) 942-2454. Please keep our guys in your prayers.

Is everyone planning on attending the arraignment tomorrow morning? I believe we should continue our strong display of support by filling the steps of the court building. I am sure the media will be in full force, and will conduct their usual interviews in front of the courthouse after the hearings. It would be great if we had a sea of officers in the background when the attorneys make their statements.

I wouldn't mind officers being on the steps in a show of support. I would ask that they not pack the court room. I would also ask that everyone attend the PANO meeting on Tuesday.

Yesterday, Friday, January 19, 2007, was the first court appearance of the officers indicted in the Danziger incident, since the posting of bonds. We, at PANO, field a lot of questions about what is going on, so I will share with you what is going on, to the extent that it is appropriate and not private nor will jeopardize their position.

The MOTIONS were filed by the attorneys for Discovery and to Quash. The DA has 30 days to provide the answer to the Discovery, and the next date set for that information to be turned over is February 16, 2007. The MOTIONS themselves will be heard on March 9, 2007.

The DA has not yet said whether he will seek the Death Penalty in this matter. The Judge has given him until February 1, 2007, to decide.

The Bonds, and the restrictions of the terms of the Bonds have been continued.

The officers have not, as of this date, been returned to work or payroll. They are still out, Suspended without Pay, so we ask that your donations and support continue. There are a number of avenues for ths support. There are fund raisers, which will be announced as soon as the dates and locations are set. There are other avenues available as well. Please do not hestiate to contact PANO (504-942-2454) or any PANO Board member for detailed information as to how you can help or demonstrate support, financially or otherwise.

You can also post your words of encouragement or support here, as the guys do read this forum regularly. I am sure they will appreciate your encouragement.

The Superintendent announced at COMSTAT today that the officers indicted and suspended for the Danziger incident will be reinstated back to work on Monday, January 29, 2007, in administrative positions until the matter is resolved.

It is great to see that a positive step forward for the welfare of the officers and their families has been made by the administration.

For this action I congratulate the superintendent.
