The matter of an increase was handled under what was posted as SB 527. From what I have read, there was some confusion about the involvement of the Sheriff's Association. What kind of confusion, I am not sure. But the Sheriff's Association carries a lot of political clout in the state, since all the Sheriff's are each elected in a parishwide election. I guess the legislature was busy with post-Katrina issues. So they put it off till next year (hopefully).
