LT, I am hearing rumblings that the proposed pay raise is about to go up in smoke, pud intended, due to complaints from the NOFD. What is the latest with the pay raise?

That the raise is still imminent and aimed for the 1st of September, but will probably not be retroactive as first hoped. Let you know if I hear anythiong further.

Has the raise has been voted on and approved yet? I've been out of town for a week but I have not seen anything said about an offical vote.

We, PANO, better get in front of this because we knew this was coming from our "brothers" at the NOFD and now we will need to be on the defensive in the only court that matters in this city, public opinion.

We need NOPD's real number put out so people of this community know the condition of this department. We need to tell people, if necessary, about our role in Katrina because most of them have only seen CNN, MSNBC, etc., because they have been in other locals, and they have seen feel good local news stories. The only thing many evacuees know about us in Katrina is looting and Cadillacs and thats a damn shame.

Looks like Captain Nick planned his speech today to coincide with his appearance on the Emeril Live show. The court of public opinion boys, we are losing it and that pay raise is about to get alot smaller.

Smile and wave boys, smile and wave. :)

LT, I may have spoken too fast. It appears Civil Service has denied the NOFD their pay raise so it appears we may be safe. My apologies, sir.

It is easy to lose confidence considering the things we have been promised in the past and have never seen. However, as sympathetic as I am for the Firefighters and EMS, that should not impact our raise.

According to Stephanie Landry, Commander of Payroll, the raise went into effect today. the computers have been re-programmed and the next paycheck will have the raise on it. Of course, only today and tomorrow (Friday & Saturday) will have the raise on it as these are the last two days of the pay period. The next check will have the full two weeks calculated with the raise.

Thanks for the update, Mike, and all the hard work on that issue! Any word on it being retroactive to July 1?

It wil not be retroactive. That's why only Friday and Saturday will be affected by the raise on this next check. The first full check with the raise will be the next one.

I did get the eMail from FOP. My information came from the Commander of Payroll, Stephanie Landry, on the 1st. I have not had a chance to check back with her and see if something has changed since then. But I will do so on Monday and immediately post and eMail what I learn.

I just spoke with Stephanie Landry, Commander of Payroll, who insists that the raise has been made effective and will appear on your 9-22-2006 check. The computer problem that we had was related to the overtime for one week on the previous check. THAT problem is still be addressed and has yet to be fully corrected but is being worked on. Again, the raise is in effect NOW.

Excerpt from an article in today's TP (emphasis mine):

Hatfield's memo said the 10 percent raise for veteran firefighters would cost $2.1 million a year and would be made retroactive to Sept. 1, the date the police raises took effect.

Not for me. Just saw my RAMS card, and my pay is the same. A fellow officer of my grade is now making a little more than ten percent more than he was previously, as reflected on his RAMS card. (And we were making the same thing on the last RAMS card.)

The raise is on the My RAMS card and the RAMS cards of everyone on my platoon. You need to contact payroll and resolve the matter.
