To All The Pano "elected" Board Members,
I Would Hope To Think That Ya'll Are Just As Floored As I Am Concering The Mayor's Insensitve Comments Regarding The "hole In The Ground". This Idiot Represents All Of Us. I Would Hope One Of The Pano Board Members Will Stand Up And Make A Statement To The Media Concering This Idiots Behavior. I Have No Problem With Pano Using A Portion Of My Dues To Take A Page Out In The Times Picayune And Any Other Newspaper Aplogizing For The Mayors Comments. Something Has To Be Put On The Record That We "pano" Are Sympathetic To The "hole In The Ground".
One More Thing, I'm Sure When The Next Katrina Comes The New York State Troopers (who Were By The Way, The Last Outside Agency To Leave New Orleans After The Hurricane) Will Be Watching Us Drown From Their "hole In The Ground" This Time.. Thanks Again Car 1 (more Like Tonka Truck 1)
Pano Be Our Voice Like We Pay Ya'll To Do..

While even the mayor conceded that some people may find his response insensitive, I do not think that PANO needs to take any action relative to the mayor's comments. Everyone in the city knows that the mayor "has his own style" of leadership. Silas Lee even said so. And any police officer in any fair sized city knows that a political statement by a government leader is not necessarily reflective of the views of the men and women who fight the good fight on the streets.
I had heard a similar comparison by someone else before. The difference was it was a private conversation. But just because something is said in private does not necessarily make it appropriate in public by a political leader. When I first heard it, they were only trying to illustrate that the rebuilding process is a marathon. And Ground Zero was not referred to as a hole in the ground.
I do not believe that PANO will benefit in any way by responding to the comments of the mayor. But I do understand the frustration of those who heard the comments.

Check out the link to the NYPD rant page and see what they are saying about Nagin and New Orleans..... also look at the pic, see how the NYPD cops are making the public aware of their low wages? Kinda funny, but it gets the point across :D

PMT,
I was asking one of the members of the PANO board to speak for us. I guess by you replying to my comment, you must be on the board?? If so, let me ask you this.. You stated " I do not believe that PANO will benefit in anyway by responding to the comments of the mayor". That being said, The board really benefited from backing EVERY LOSING candidate during the last election right... Go tell someone else that garbage.. I hope you are not on the board if so I'm done.. And if you don't agree with me about backing the losing candidates go ask LT. Dave how he likes the platoon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

An Open Letter to the Police Departments of the City of New York & the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, the New York State Police, and the citizens of the City of New York.
As the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina is upon us, the men and women of the Police Association of New Orleans would like to take this opportunity to thank your agencies and the citizens of New York, for their assistance in dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Many of us worked side by side with your officers after August 29th, 2005, and felt the pride and camaraderie that you must have felt when we sent assistance to New York after 9-11. We would also like to take this opportunity to address the recent comment made by New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin concerning Ground Zero.
As fellow officers and patriots of this great nation, we recognize that the City of New York was the target of a foreign enemy. That enemy took the lives of 3000 people in the Twin Towers and has since led our military to confront them on their own soil, costing over 2000 American servicemen’s lives.
We stand arm and arm with our New York brother and sister officers, just as you stood with us here in New Orleans. We also recognize that Ground Zero is not simply a hole in the ground but hallowed ground. Whatever is ultimately constructed on that site will serve as a headstone and monument to that sacrifice for the entire world to remember.
We pray to the Almighty that our cities never again experience the horrible tragedies which have forever changed us. We also pray that our citizens never forget the great cost paid by a few, so that so many, as ungrateful for the sacrifice as they may be, can experience a freedom not shared anywhere else on the globe.
The Police Association of New Orleans
Lt. Michael Glasser - President
Lt. Bryant Winninger - First Vice President
Sgt. Mark Mornay - Second Vice President
Sgt. Anthony Caprera - Recording Secretary
Officer Jean Beckemeyer - Treasurer
Lt. Paul Noel - Sergeant at Arms
Lt. Dwayne Scheuermann - Executive Trustee

These are very emotional issues during a most trying time. We're all emotionally involved.
It has always been my personal policy to try and not act out of anger or emotion. Waiting a day or two and talking with other people whose opinions you value helps put things in perspective. There is always time to comment, but once stated, you can't take it back (as hizzoner has demonstrated). It apears that the NYPD approves as well:
